well id say they are both good guns for hunting and home defence .and if u got a GAs piston AR it would out shine the AK well to me it would  i hope one day to have a P.O.F AR build :D

well they are both reliable, but the ak is less picky about how well it is cleaned after you shoot it, course you can get away with not cleaning it at all after every trip too

now for long range accuracy thats a different story, id go with the ar on that 1

AK is the energizer bunny in the world of guns and ammo.

I love the AR too, but in harsh conditions and repeated use the AR needs alot of TLC.

IMO - Both are good weapons. As others have said, the AK's design will withstand a more harsh environment - e.g., sand. The AK round is also better for penetration. But for shooting at greater distances, the AR will perform better. Aside from a more "standard" version of an AR (which will out perform the AK in accuracy), the ARs over versatility that will allow you to configure them for a variety of uses. You can build longer distance version of an AR that will push the effective range (with respect to accuracy) well outside of the capabilities of an AK. For an urban combat environment (not in the middle east), I would favor the AR.

What does it all mean? It means you really need both :D OR you can look into an M-14. I'd love to have one but don't have the money. With an M-14, you get a rifle with good penteration (7.62mm), good reliabilty, and very accurate.

Nah. I'm just messing around. I've got 2 AK's and an AR, plans for 3 more AKs, as well as plans for at least one more AR. They've both got their own strong points and weak points. In my opinion, this is a clear case of...

...buy both! :D

I like the AK. Cheap, tough, cheap, easy to fix if needed, cheap.....

the AR is good too, just too many parts-that "tactical" crap-and that damn gas tube....

And don't even go with accuracy, the 74 can do very well with good sights.

I'm no rifle maven, but isn't it that "damn gas tube" that enabled our DI's to hold an M16 against their crotch and empty a 30 round magazine on full auto and not feel it?

Impressed the hell out of me, I can tell you that!

Peace,
D.

Yea I've seen that too. But I also can shoot a Mosin M38 like a pistol too.....and even hit good on the target repeatedly at 30meters.... well, at least five rounds once every few months.....
