Ok she's finished but not without a problem. Every couple rounds, the round gets jammed up right on the feed ramp, pushing the bullet partialy back into the casing! I drop the mag, throw the round away and re-load. Very annoying to say the least having to do this every 2 or 3 rounds. So AR experts, what's ur opinion? Buy a new mag?,(they all tell me get the ones with the green followers) shine the feed ramp? What causes this chambering failure. Seems like a feed issue so I'm guessing buy a beter magazine?

Thanks.

Lube it up really good, use some decent brass cased ammo, and break it in.
Then sell it and buy an AK

Seriously, use some decent brassed case ammo, maybe 150-200 rounds worth. Lube it up real good about half way through. If it doesn;t get any better I would try another mag.

Sounds like a magazine problem. Stay away from the SA80 mags, they are less expensive and fit, but the ones I have owned never worked right.

Yes the bolt locks back, so does that rule out its magazine related since the follower is engadging the bolt lock?

IMO, FTF is usually caused by one of 2 problems in an AR.
1. short stroking
2. magazine

My question was aimed at determining whether you had a short stroking problem. It doesn't sound like short stroking. You can test it further at the range. Put 1 round in the mag, chamber it, fire it down range, and see if the bolt is locked back. Then repeat the same exercise with 2 rounds in the magazine.

Based on your response to my question though, my best guess is that you've got a problem with the magazine.

Ironicaly, due to back stop concerns, my range only let's u shoot one round at a time on rifle caliber rounds. When I load one round it always chambered, fired, and the bolt locks back. However,(when the range master wasn't looking) I would load 2 or 3. And about 80% of the time the second round would jam on the ramp, and punch the bullet partialy back into its casing. Out of 20 rounds, I had to throw away about 6 for this reason.

What type of magazine & ammo are you using?

federal 55 grain jhp.

as far as the mag i bought a new one to try out today. the previous one i thought looked a little suspect, but the guy assured me he had no problems wih them. so we'll see today if the new mag helps.

I think you're on the right track with the mag. The ammo sounds fine. I know it was suggested that you try a heavier bullet. Perhaps they know more on the subject than I do; but I have never heard of bullet weight affecting the feed in an AR. Your rifle should perform fine with it. I would be suspect of the ammo if you were using some crap, 3rd world ammo. But Federal should work without any issues.

Good luck. Post again & let us know how it went.

I'm willing to bet a right arm (yours, not mine  ) that it's your magazines. My build eats Wolf, Lake City, Silver Bear, Tootsie Rolls, whatever you wanna throw at it.

Check this out and buy some good mags, I bet it will solve your problem.

ok, picked up a USGI mag and wala!! full mag and not one jam!! sweet. :D :D :D :) so i compared this mag to my old one and wow....what shoddy quality on the old mag. rough edges, poor follower design, completely out of spec. well, lesson learned. stay away from crappy AR mags maid in Taiwan. strictly Okay industries mags for me. :D

I have 4 okay ind. mags that don't fit into the dang magwell. Ichy tried them in his and they fit his magwell, sorta... but they didn't feed reliably.
