I am about to build an AR-15 and I have a couple questions. I have recenetly ordered a stripped lower from Stag. The place where I ordered it had some in stock, but they were stamped .556. I am going to build a 6.8 SPC AR and they had to order the lower with it stamped 6.8. I know I didn't have to but if I am going to build a 6.8, I want to say 6.8. Anyway...here's my question. I have been looking at Model 1 Sales and J&T Distributing. Has anyone had any experience with either one of these. I don't know who makes the J&T stuff and I don't know who makes Model 1's stuff except their barrel. ER Shaw is the barrel that comes with the Model 1 Sales Rifle Kit. Working at Barrett, our M468 has the ER Shaw barrel and we have had a lot of problems with them. Most of the barrels have been bad from the time they came in the door. We are going to another vender now for barrels for the M468.

I am leaning more towards the kit from J&T. Any suggestions?

I bought my M-4 upper kit from J&T and cannot say enough good things about them! (If you are military or prior military, ask for the discount [assuming they are still doing that]).

IIRC, the J&T units are manufactured by FN, so you are getting a very high quality product.
This is what mine turned into:

I recall hearing of some customer service problems with Model 1 Sales.

Have you checked on ARF.COM? That is pretty much the pre-eminent source for all things AR.

I've seen the same type of negative feedback on Model 1, and positive feedback on J&T.

I used Del-Ton for my first build and was very pleased with their products and customer service. My barrel is a Wilson.

Same here. My Del-Ton kit has been 100% but I also hear great things about J&T Distributing.

I own 2 DoubleStar (J&T) AR-15s. They are very good quality and are accurate. I also own 2 Rock River AR-15s......NOW>>>>>> TO LET YOU IN ON A TRADE SECRET.....Most every (yes most every) AR-15 mil-spec parts are made by the same manufacturer. Retail dealers order the lower receivers with a personal brand engraved. Most uppers and barrels don't have a name on them so that should tell you something too since they all interchange from lower to lower. With the right paperwork and connections, you too could market your own brand of AR-15.
