AR Range Report (And how I got a free Eotech!)

As many of you know, I just recently finished my latest AR15 build. I'd had an image of my ideal AR in my head for quite some time, and I finally finished it about a week ago. I just needed to decide on sights and buy/install them.

I was planning on heading-out to a new shooting range this morning to watch an IDPA match, so I called my buddy who owns the place (I do the computer consulting for the range/store). We were shooting the breeze a bit about the IDPA match, and I happened to mention my new AR. Of course, I've been talking about this AR build for quite a while, so he tells me to bring it out today... Just to take a look... Of course, I remind him that there are no sights, so it'll just be "to look".

So I went to the range this morning and watched my first live IDPA match (Pretty cool!). Afterwards a few guys hung out and we shot some steel plates, pins and what-not. Then someone asked me to get the AR out, and I happily went out to get it.

After everyone was done fondling it (everybody loves an AR), the discussion started about how it was a shame that we couldn't shoot it and break it in a little, to which my buddy said "Hold on a minute." He went out to his truck and returned a few minutes later with some CLP, a half case of 5.56, two Eotechs and an AimPoint! Evidently he's had the sights just kicking around in the back of his Tahoe for quite a while (You should see what else is in there!). After checking out the Eotechs and the AimPoint, I decided to try the Eotech.

So, to make a long story short, we lubed-up the AR, bolted on the Eotech and went shooting! Needless to say, much fun was had by all (especially me) and the gun ran flawlessly. I couldn't be happier! Best of all, the Eotech came home with me on "indefinite" loan! :D

I do need to pick-up some new batteries for it. Sitting in a range bag in the back of a truck for 2 years isn't the best thing for batteries, but that is a small price to pay for such an awesome sight. I had been leaning towards a Bushnell Holosight to save a little money, but I guess the Eotech will have to do. ;)

Ask your buddy if he will "loan" me the other Eotech. I am not picky the AimPoint would do work as well.

Great story. Nice looking rifle.

Your buddy wanna "loan out" any AR's of the carbine variety indefinitely? :D

Congrats though, and that is one sweet looking AR setup too.

that is a good friend
