    whats the major advantage of a tin bolt & carrier vs. standard metal

    +1. I'll add that it sounds scary. I've heard of titanium, or some such metallurgic shenaniganry, but not tin.

    My mistake apparently its "coated" in tin. giving it a harder surface which is good in a bolt carrier, increasing durability. Its a pretty expensive option though.

    :D I think you mean TiN, as in TItanium Nitride. Here, I found a page describing its properties:

    +1 I also think you mean TItanium Nitride as DPMS offers this as a upgrade for there line of rifles, I just have the standard and it is wearing very well

    Good Grief! from the weakest and cheapest tin to the strongest and most expensive Titanium.
    We've hit for the cycle this time fellas :lol:
    Don't tell me, they are making ceramic barrels now :shock:

    This was as bad as the "Clip vs. Magazine" wars of 68, you know Quay Trang Valley? :p
