I have decided to start building my AR next week and have some questions. I want to do it top of the line the first time but have some questions. I am really interested in billet lowers.

1. What are the main advantages? Besides strength, weight etc? I am interested in POF and Sun Devil. I like the POF for the closeness to home. I lived in Glendale all of my life and Sun Devil I heard is really high quality plus reminds me of my alma mater.

2. Will these build on to any mil spec upper. I am looking at LMT, Noveske and Recce. Will I have any issues with the uppers, etc.

3. Will standard spec parts kits and stocks etc. work without a problem.

Basically are they the same specs as most lowers but made out of billet?

well one question i have is do standard forged lowers have any large disadvantage?
i did some looking and the benifits seem to be strength ( which i personally dont think its worth the extra cost since i never heard of a forged lower breaking)
and the only other thing i see is an integrated trigger guard

personally i think you would benifit more from spending that extra money on good glass or ammo or putting the extra into a REALLY good upper. for me i view the lower is muchless important then the upper. so when i built my ar i did the lower as cheap as possible $215 completed with a T6 stock. that allowed me to spend more on my upper. i got an 18" CMMG and put a free float on it and a nikon 3x9-40 prostaff

ok well one thing seems to be that billet ones have a higher consistency but most lowers are just fine as far as tolerances go (at least in my experience, ive never seen one that parts dont fit, but im sure it does happen)

Thanks for the input Roger, Ive considered many options and am trying to educate myself in all. I may or may not buy billet, but am under the belief of you get what you pay for.

My next AR build will be with a POF lower. They are supposedly of great quality, and they are the only ones with ambi bolt releases. (i'm a lefty)

I used a DPMS for my last one, and have absolutely zero complaints.

well the billet ones do look nicer and if you can afford it by all means get one it will be better then forged but i do think you will benefit more from spending that money on something else. but if cost isnt an issue i would buy a billet

It is your money so you should spend whatever way you want. If you really like the Billet then get it. I plan to pick a POF billet lower someday. Yeah I know they are overpriced, but they are so cool. Can you put a price on cool? :D
