I know a bunch of you have these handguards and my question is that mine seem an have a fair amount of play (side to side movement) when I'm holding onto the vertical grip.

It's not a huge deal but the top rail portion also has play and so this is a consideration for mounting any optics on top of a rail that really isn't tight fitting even though you're not really going to grap an optic like you do a vertical grip.

Any ways to make the rail fit tighter and have less movement or is this not a big deal? Thanks........

This is going to sound rude.. but you get what you pay for. Any rail system that does not lock on to the receiver is not going to be a reliable optics mount.

So a little more info if you could.. what kind of optics are you thinking about mounting that need to be on your railed hand guards? Scout forward mounting styles, the only way I would think that you'd want to mount an optic forward of the receiver, should only be done with free floats that lock onto the barrel nut or by using a goose neck mount if you have an A2 type receiver.

You could attempt to shim the hg pieces where they mate with the D ring and forward cup.. nothing is coming to mind right away for what to use, but someone will have a working idea and pipe in.

Are you sure just the quad rail is moving or is the whole upper moving side to side when applying pressure to the VFG? I made this same mistake when I first had mine.

Another thing I noticed about those rails were that the gas tube made contact with the top rail so you may have to do some dremel work to get the halves to fit snug.

Also check the delta ring from the side to see if the halves are matching up evenly. Mine seemed to be slightly uneven.

Hope this helps.

I bought a KZ quad rail handguard setup from a member here. I got it for just a couple dollars more than it would have costed me to add one of those rails that you screw to your existing grips. Much better solution than that for the price. It's my first jump into rail systems and it's more of an experiment than anything. I don't plan to mount any optic/laser so it will fit the bill for my mission.

I've noticed no contact with the gas tube. I'd think that would be a very bad thing. I have yet to try mine with a vfg but have plans to try one out at some point. Again, more of an experiment as I've never tried one. My mount seems fairly solid but since I've yet to put on a vfg . . . I have not had the leverage to feel what you are experiencing.

I found it kind of funny that they list this product with a "lifetime warranty" as a selling point. However when I contacted Botach for KZ contact info, I got a URL that was bogus or out of order. I don't see any value in a warranty if the company isn't going to be there to back it up. Just thought I'd mention that if anyone is looking to buy one of these, just keep it in mind. For my plans, I still think it was a good buy and can't see paying the $300 some are asking for their product. Seems nuts.

my buddy bought one of these for his gun. he wanted to add a light and a foregrip.

it does that. i would say that the build quality is a bit better than what the price suggests. there is nothing inherently "wrong" with it....and i actually like it better than the YHM 2 piece offering.

his locked up real tight.

there is always the old trick for loose handguards, either dimple the front retaining plate so that it fits tighter, or add some aluminum foil around the barrel nut to fill up loose gaps.

Thanks for everybody's input. I know it wasn't expensive but for $60 I thought I'd give it a try.

I will check the delta ring and see if anything is happening there along with maybe the shim with some foil or something. I'm sure a $300 unit fits snug bhut I wasn't willing to spend the money at present.

The rail is two piece so when I hold the vfg the bottom portion of the piece moves ever so slightly. For $60 I can live with it. At some point I may explore the FF ones of better quality. Thanks for all of the comments.

yeah I too get play on the bottom rail with my vertical grip. my top rail does not have any play though, but I still would not mount any type of optics on them.

only time i really notice the play is when i twist the pistol grip to one side and the forgrip to the opposite side. other than that, I don't really notice the play.

these thing retail for $60 at Botach and they are not worth that to me. Lucky for me, I got mine for $10 (with the TLR deal). For me they do the job, they hold my light and a foregrip.

i will replace them one day, but am no hurry as this is my #3 AR and the #6 SHTF designated weapon :)
