Have any of you used the EOTech with 4X magnifier?

I want a multipurpose sight for both CQB and long-range targets.

I was looking at the ACOG with the red-dot on top, but this could be very bulky (and $$$$).

I like the price of the EOTech, and then I ran across this 4X setup. The price is high, but if you purchase an EOTech 511 (I don't need night vision) and then add the 4X.FTS, the price is higher then just the bundle deal on opticsplanet.com, even though I don't need the 557.

http://www.opticsplanet.net/eotech-mpo-multi-purpose-optic-holographic-system-hws-557-4x.html

Does anyone have any comments on this setup? I know nothing about optics, but what I don't want is a regular sight that is out of focus when you move your head away.

Thanks!

Yea, I've got a comment.
It's a over priced magnifier like all the rest of them. It has a couple of lenses, no crosshairs, and no knobs.

It's not mine, but this is a cheapo mil-surplus magnifier that was adapted to an Eotech.

I think the guy paid $20 dollars for it, and then came up with an adapter. Sure it would break during battle, but if you're in battle, or in LE ......... My tax dollars will buy the one you listed.

There is a thing called quality, and then there is a thing called marketing. This is marketed to a tax funded purchasing agent, and the difference is made up in civilian sales.

P.S. I'm kind of cheap when it comes to this stuff.

OK, I obviously see I posted this early :)

I found a thread on here about the clones, and the name "Hensoldt" comes up a lot, but I cannot find a website for them.

Also, people say great things about the Millett DMS-1.

I really don't know which way to go!!! I like the "moving" holographic reticle of the EOTech, but want the capability of magnification. I like the idea of having the EOTech for CQB and throw down the magnifier at the range.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a ~4X magnifier clone and a riser?

I think the Hensoldt has become a dream. The supply of surplus is gone.

I thought of taking a 3x9 $40 piece of junk and removing the reticle, then mounting it behind my Holosight, but ended up getting a regular scope for the AR.

The Holosight is on a 22 pistol right now. But I'd love to have a few more of these Holographic sights. They're cool and fast.

Find what this guy is talking about and you'll be set.

Perhaps Ebay ??

LaRue still has some of their Po' Boy Specials (Cleaned up Hensoldt's) .. 2.5x mag in a flip to side mount running like $190. I have that and I have the EOT 3x .. the EOT has a wider field of view but all said and told, the two really are on par with each other.

The flip to side mounts are well worth the price IMHO. Some of the folks who can't bring themselves to buy the name branded versions are seemingly happy with the $100-150 clones, with most of those you'll need to get your own mount if you want something reliable.

I'd also advise you stay with the 512 rather than the 511 for battery reasons, but that's your call.

Note that when you add the magnifier you'll most likely end up adding a riser for the EOTech as well.

As posted in the "clone review" thread this is my EOTech and clone 3x mag setup on a LaRue mount with the clone "twist off" mount.

This is my Aimpoint with theLaRue "Po Boy Special".

And this is my Millet DMS-1

Bet all of that didn't help you decide :p

I read your "clone review" thread and it was very informative. Thank you.

The Hendsoldt just kinda looks cheap and "homemade". I really like that other 3X clone you have. Looks like an aimpoint. Did you purchase a clone aimpoint and remove the reticle or is it a magnifier only? Can you provide a link (or a name) of the clone?

I also really like the DMS-1 because 1) an integrated solution 2) 1-4X mag. However, the EOT are way cooler with the holographic "moving" sight.

Maybe I should get the DMS-1 for range time but keep the EOT on mainly??? No....because I don't want to keep switching!

I have never seen 3X mag...is it plenty for 100-200 yard targeting?

Would you trust a clone EOTech as well :) ?

NO

I found this on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/EOTECH-551-AIMP...ryZ66827QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The clones look so damn good! AND THE PRICE!!!

Remember, a lot of this stuff is designed to be sold the the military, and they will pay pretty much anything. A lens is not that expensive to manufacture, either.
The eotech replica is a red dot sight and not a holographic sight as the real thing is.
A clone magnifier is one thing, but trusting a clone optic is another ;)

The QD mount is not a flip-to-side mount is it? The whole magnifier is removed from the gun when it's not in use, correct? I really want a flip-out style mount.

JB, I've used the 4x EO w/ but with the fixed mount on a PS90 at the range (not really sure of why anyone would want a 4x on a subgun, but oh well...). It's nice to say the least, whether or not it's worth the bread is up in the air for most. I'd say it's two strengths are it's glass (it's noticably clearer than the 3xEO, but not by much) and the fact that it retains the 'rectangle' sight picture of the EO, as opposed to the 3x and other clones that use a round profile under magnification. The rough grey finish on it is much nicer in person than in pics where it looks kinda weird. They claim it's tough, but I wouldn't even think of letting this one drop for that kind of penny... ;) Waaay too rich for my blood, tho! hope this helps.

I've yet to see a cloned FTS mount ;)
Yes those "twist off" mounts mena that the 3xmag is removed when not on the base.

And that one on gunbroker is a lot more expensive than the ebay ones.

They all seem to be metal as well, not for airsoft...but I could be wrong.

Any difference you think?
any difference ???????????? who knows.
all those ebay ones are in hong kong and look at the shipping price.
