Gander Mtn. (not a huge fan of them, but...) has an S&W M&P15 on sale for $799.00 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Good? bad? can get better for better price? Haven't heard or looked for much info on the S&W AR's.

Yes, it's a decent deal. Do you know which specific model it is? If it's the M&P15A (flat-top with Troy BUIS), it's a fair price. There is a M&P15 with a removable carry handle...I don't really see the point in those.

its nice to have, more flexible with the accessories. I planned to practice on iron sights first then later maybe get optics

I mean I don't see the point of the removable CH if you have the option of a flip rear sight, especially a good one like the Troy that the M&Ps come with.

Haven't held it in my hands. I just got a flyer on it in the mail today. It is a flat top model from the pictures. 16" barrel, CAR stock, optics ready, 30-rd mag. Might go look at one tomorrow to get the specifics.

Wife's gonna kill me if I buy another gun. Unless its for her.

The ARs at my Gander are so beat up from people messing with them that the cannot sell em now.

They finally locked them up after almost a year - they are ALL in a glass case now

I picked up my M&P15x last week for $999 after the rebate. Came with the the Troy quad rail and flip up rear sight. I might have paid a little too much, but it was worth it IMO. I couldnt be happier.

The GM buy me is so over priced that I won't buy anything from them any more. The M&P15 you mentioned are priced at 1,295 for the base model and 1,795 for the Troy BUIS model.

WOW! The tag on mine was $1399, the dealer knocked it down to $1099 plus the $100 dollar rebate. Both my dad and I spend a lot of money there, so I expected a break, but I know that they always make something on the sales. If they can sell one for $1099, anyone asking $1700+ is flat out trying to rob you. The dealer I use actually has a rep for being overpriced. I guess they can kinda afford to be, seeing as they are the only ones in town.

When I got mine last year, they were still listed thru S&W at $1750 retail. I got it for $1250 locally & I don't regret it one bit... a little on the high side, but still an OK price overall; online they were much cheaper but the shipping/transfer fee at my locals is dirty back-alley rape - so it made more sense to go local & got to walk out w/ it same day.

A $100 rebate is always good, no matter what gun it is! :)
