Good score. With no mag, If the bcg is manually locked back by pressing holding the bottom of the bolt release button, then by pulling the charging handle all the way, you can see hear the catch drop with the bcg starting to going forward into battery. Hold onto the charging handle and ease into battery avoiding slamming the bolt on a empty chamber. As far as oil, I go with a generous amount. Carbon will build up on the curved surface of the bolt tail and front recessed area of the carrier where the bolt fits.

Well guys I picked up my AR today. It's a Colt LE6920. Model number MP6920-FDE I believe. I am in love. I really wasn't going to get one now, but the prices are too good to pass up. I got out the door after Florida's 7% sales tax and $5 BG check for $950 even.
This thing is a beauty. A precise machine. I finally feel prepared for the zombie apocalypse or a civil insurrection. I also have 13 more Pmags coming.
I already took it apart and cleaned it. The bore was very dirty, and the BCG had a bunch of nasty yellow oil-grease. I lubed it according to a diagram I found online.
Now I have a few questions you AR experts can hopefully help me with.
One, is it correct for the bolt to release from the fully locked open position when I simply pull the charging handle to the full rear, and not touch the bolt release (no magazine in)? I sure as hell hope so, I can't remember if it did before I took it apart. Just making sure I didn't FUBAR anything.
Two, I found it pretty hard to get the deep parts of the BCG clean. Is there a special tool or technique I should be using? The same goes for the chamber area. The lugs really obstruct the use of a brush. Tips or tricks?
Three, how heavy should I lube it?
Four, what should I feed this thing? What do you all use for practice ammo? I found some PMC .223 55 Gr FMJ for 34 cents per round to my door.
Five, I know 55 grain isn't exactly optimum for this 1 in 7 twist, but can I expect to get pretty good accuracy out of this? 2 MOA (GUN, not shooter. Think on a vice; inherent accuracy)?
And finally, I couldn't find this anywhere else. My barrel length is listed as 16.1 inches. Does this include the flash hider, or is the flash hider in addition to this?

Congrats! Very sharp rifle. How do you like your MOE handguard? I'm debating if I want to get the MOE or wait for the mid-length SL handguard to come out. I got my AR upper today and my lower will ship today and like you I'm in love. I also feel like I'm more prepared for the zombie apocalypse and SHTF situations.

As for cleaning hard to reach areas... Get some good dental scrapers.
Mobil 1 oil is great for lube...
Any cheap ammo will work for plinking(wolf/ tula) steel case will not harm it. For accuracy buy different brands and see what your rifle likes

Most questions have already been answered, but I'm also far from an expert so keep that in mind
Don't worry too much about your twist rate. Better a fast twist than too slow. 55gr ammo will still shoots fine out of a faster twist. The issue with twist rate comes from shooting heavier (meaning longer) bullets in a twist too slow to stabilize the bullet's flight (77gr in an original 1:12" twist barrel won't stabilize). 1:7" is a good thing for all around shooting.
The 16.1" barrel is without the length of the flash hider. Federal law requires the barrel be 16" or more without a tax stamp. That's why you see 14.7" barrels with permanently pinned flash hiders to make a permanent length "16 inch barrel". Your barrel has a removable flash hider so you can run whatever you want, but you can't do much better than the A2 flash hider it came with in terms of function. Aesthetics is another matter, but I'd prefer it function well.
Congrats on your stylish entry into the AR world. It won't be your last. I thought my first would be my last. Now I'm planning my third...lol
Edit: another thumbs up for Mobile1. I use the same oil as in my car, 5W20. I just keep a quart laying around.

Mine was more on the dry side than soaked... If you are running it heavy in the beginning then maybe
The wetter it is the more splatter you are going to get on yourself

I was thinking about getting a 6940 here in a little bit. I have a 6920 already but I like the all one peice upper style. I have heard the 6940 is heavier than the 6920.Contgrats on the Colt! I very much like it. It feels much more natural and contoured to me than does the stock fat circular black hand guard from colt. Really molds to my hand. Not trying to pick a fight, but I'd stay away from Tula. I saw a comparison test where someone took 3 identical ARs and shot 10,000 rounds through them using minimal lube to see the effects of Wolf, Tula and regular Federal cheap 55 grain ammo on the rifles. If I remember correctly, the Tula ammo was so damaging, the rifle quit running after 6,000 rounds and caused so much damage to the bore from the bimetal jacket that there was no accuracy. In comparison, the Federal ammo showed few signs of use in the action and very little wear in the bore. Wish I had the link to the study...Any cheap ammo will work for plinking(wolf/ tula) steel case will not harm it. For accuracy buy different brands and see what your rifle likes
If you're talking about the actual steel case (rather than brass), no, the case will not damage the rifle, but the ammo in general will if you use a lot of it.

As for your questions:
1) Yes it is normal for the bolt to close if you pull the charging handle all the way back with no mag in it. No big deal.
2) There are dedicated scrapers or tools you can buy to get the BCG clean. I use stiff pipe cleaners in the gas key and the firing pin channel, and it seems to work pretty well. As for the chamber, I highly recommend a dedicated AR-15 Chamber Brush. I got one and it makes getting that area clean MUCH easier, especially the lugs.
3) AR-15s are best to be run pretty wet. Especially on the bolt itself and on the sides of the carrier. Mine is pretty well covered in lube (I use Slip2000 myself) when I put it back in the gun. You can over lube any gun if you really try, but the AR is one gun that needs to be run pretty wet and slick.
4)As for ammo, any 55gr should work fine. PMC, Independence, Federal XM193 is what I generally run in my AR. See what your gun likes and stock up on that. If your gun will cycle steel cased stuff reliably, then use that for practice ammo; don't believe the internet BS that it'll hurt the extractor, it's not true. Buy a box and if your gun runs Wolf or Tula then run it.
5)You can probably expect around 2 MOA out of most ARs unless they're a really high end one or one designed for precision work (i.e. one with a long bull barrel). I find there's a lot of hype and exaggeration on out of the box AR accuracy for most factory rifles. But 2 MOA is more than accurate enough for the purposes of plinking, fun and home defense/SHTF.
6) Your rifle barrel is 16.1" and that doesn't include the muzzle device, since it's removable.
