Why are you going with the 551?
its cheeper than most others. i dont own nightvision and it is actually illegal to use in MO w/ firearms so i dont need the capability. at least thats what ive gathered from my research, if you know otherwise fill me in

The eotech 551 is does have night vision and is about $60+ more than the cheapest. The cheapest eotech is the 511 which doesnt have NV and still uses N batteries. I got the 512 since I didn't need NV and wanted to use regular AA battery.

I'd recommend the 512 over the 511/551 just because of the battery. It's a little more than the 511, but not much at all, so save the extra money and get the 512.

Save your reasearch time. Biggest differences between the two models

511= N cell batteries
512=AA batteries. (much better battery life and availability)

Neither offers night vision capabilities
-----------------------------------

551=N cell w/NV compatibility
552=AA w/ NV capability

550+ series also has better resistance to water ~65 feet

Aimpoint is OK I guess. But I dont' really care for them as much. I own one, but took it off a gun to install a Holosight in its' place.

The Eo reticle acquisitions a lot faster for me.

Battery life for the aimpoint is awesome though, but I have a hard time finding the aimpoint dot sometimes and I don't like that.

I'd rather have something I can use 100% of the time. The Aimpoint just doesn't fit that bill for my taste.

there is also a slight weight difference and length difference between the two models. the 511 is shorter and lighter but not much.
