New AR-15 on order, recommend some magazines!

So I finally broke down and ordered my first AR-15. I should have the AR in 2-6 weeks as that model is special order only. I already have the sights ordered for it. Just iron sights for now as I will be primarily using it for 3-gun matches in the Limited division. I will later add some optics for groundhog hunting and the occasion Tactical division match.

The thing that is getting really annoying is shopping for is magazines. The gun only comes with one and I suspect that will probably be a 10rd magazine. I would like a couple straight 20rd magazines and a few 30rd magazines. All the magazine FAQ I find on various web sight all date from 1999. Someone must be making good new magazines. I would rather buy new than used. Any advice for picking out good reliable magazines would be great. Recommending good online store to order AR parts from would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi - might want to check out CProducts
http://cproductsllc.com/
Highly recommended on several sites, 20 and 30 round magazines, a variety of coatings, springs, followers, aluminum or stainless steel bodies (these have been given very high marks on lightfighter.net). For aluminum-bodied magazines, you can buy their new magazines for close to what some used or crap magazines are going for. You can also email or call them up and actually talk to someone who knows what they're doing at their company. Good luck.

I haven't ordered anything from those sites but they have a bunch of stuff. JP rifles has a lot of compatition stuff..

I'm sorry to say I'm not home yet or I would just send you a couple 30 rounders. I have a lot of them from work. I like the Colt 20 rounders for work because there a little more compact, makes it easier to store in the hummers. Not that it would be an issue for you.

The only problem mags I would stay away from is the plastic ones. I've never had any good luck with them and the weight difference isn't worth the reliabiltiy issues. BUT someone else on the forum might, know of a couple good ones.

OH forgot one www.brownells.com. they have everything you could possably want for an AR15...

I'm new to the site and hope this helps you out. Trying to pull my weight.. love this site..

I actually bought 20 some magazines from 44mag.com when the price wars were starting and I'm kicking myself now, cause I can get better magazines for the same price elsewhere.

They want either $12.57 or $13.07 for the same magazines as Global Trades and they still are charging shipping. "SPECIAL OFFER: Free 3-day priority mail shipping on orders over $100. Full cases ship free via UPS ground. Orders are currently shipping same or next day."

That's a killer deal on the C-Products mags. I just ordered three, as I really don't need 5 more right now. Shipping was only $4, very reasonable.

I haven't been to any gunshows in a long time, but I did pick up some of the British steel mags that were marked with a sticker saying "England" a few years ago. They were referred to as "England mags" back then. I belive the same mags were referred to as "Sterling mags" but I could be wrong. I seem to remember the two having different finishes. They were $14 each at the time. They are tough as nails, 100% reliable, and always drop free. I'm not so sure there's any more to be had these days though.

Thnaks for the line on those cheap mags! They were cheaper than my distributor!

DSG mags are some of the best at minimal cost. I have about 15 of them. They come with the Magpul anti-tilt followers.

Just purchased 6 AR-Stoner 30rd mags with Magpul anti-tilt follower (C Products mags that are private labeled, can't go wrong with C Products)from Midway for $9.99 each. If you want the "creme de la creme""like butter baby" try HK 30 rounders but they are expensive. Cheapest I have seen them is $39.95 each at BotachTactical.com. You can't go wrong with the C Products mag for the price.

Thanks for all the help guys. I order a three 30 and two 20 round magazine from 44mag.com. I got the gray Teflon coated with Magpul followers and some ranger base-pads. I also order one older straight 20rd just because I think the old straight style 20rd magazines look a lot nicer in the gun. I let you guys know how the work when they and my AR finally get arrive. This waiting it going to drive me nuts.

Thanks again for all the help
