No offense, I have a 16" too. . . but the 16" barrel does kinda look GhEy. Too unproportionate.

I'm sure you'll like it regardless. Have you shot it yet?

Aren't all new Colts marked LE/Mil only?
I was under the impression that they were only building AR15's for gov't market.
Beautiful gun though....

Colt has 2 divisions but in reality it’s more like 3,

they have there civilian line that make rifles that still follow the rules of the now dead AWB

http://www.coltsmfg.com/cmci/rifles.asp

and a Military/Government line which is really two parts one being a real military line making select fire rifles and the other a law enforcement line making rifles with pre ban goodies but most being non NFA items.

http://www.colt.com/

Now that the AWB is over Colt could consolidate the civilian and law enforcement line into one (basically by just doing away with the current civilian line) but as of yet Colt is unsure about what they are going to do.

Any of us in ban free states can buy law enforcement models and current production law enforcement models are no longer even marked “Gov/LE use only” but they are still only sent to LE dealers. (There are a few exceptions to this, models with short barrels, select fire etc)

Since current LE models are no longer marked “Gov/LE use only”, the marked “Gov/LE use only” models are expected to gain value and this increase in price has already started with most dealers.

I personally could care less about the value going up as I don’t sell my firearms, but I will admit having EBR marked “Gov/LE use only” is kind of cool, in my mind it’s like telling old Di Fi to kiss my A$$, and that makes me feel better.

BTW, It was $1400.

Anyone else have expierence with these I have seen quite a few going for $950 and wondered if the thin chrome-lined barrel is what is scarying people ie keeping teh price down? Its a beautiful Gun and its a colt. Been wanting an AR but $950 is a lot of coin if I can only get like 500 rounds before the barrel has probleams. Thanks for any help guys.

I have a early 80s version which is the Colt CAR-15 SP1 (paid $459 on sale from $750  that was alot of cash back then).
I don't have any problems with the skinny chrome lined bore and I've put quite a bit of ammo through it. Back then, there was no such thing as a M-4

First, if you see them for $950, buy one and don’t look back as that’s much lower than the average price.

As far a the barrel being thin, it’s not a problem, being just 22 cal there is more meat there than it looks, if you look under the hand guards of an M4 or current M16 between the camber and the front sight block the barrel tapers down to about the same thickness and they fire full auto or 3rd burst, it would take several 30rd mags (probably more than 5 or 6 being semi auto) fired back to back at the highest rate of fire you could to get it hot enough to damage the barrel. Being thinner will allow it get hot faster but it would so cool faster and unless you just wanted to try to melt the barrel 500 round would just start breaking it in.

Here's a pic showing under the hand guards of the Gov carbine top and a Colt M4 bottom,

not the best pic but I don't feel like seting everything up right now

And people wonder why I'm not married. :D

My crystal ball shows one of those in my "not so distant" future.

Just for curiosity. How far do the shells get ejected. My brothers shoots them 3 stalls over and back about 5 feet . But most of his weapons are not factory specs either. He swears he hasn't touched his AR, with a slight smile on his face.
