Has anyone heard much about the new R-15 from Remington? Has anyone seen one in person? May make a good varmint gun.

Remington's website shows msrp of $999, and Bushmaster's website shows msrp of $1410 for the same rifle. Hmmm, wonder which one everybody will buy? $415 difference for the same rifle.

I don't know anything about the R15 yet. But one thing I know for sure in the world of Ar's is just because one rifle looks like another one does not mean they are of the same quality. A lot of rifles look like a Colt 6920 but very few are as good. (M4 feed ramps, MP tested bolts and barrels, proper steel, chrome lining etc)
You get what you pay for. That is why I won't by a new AR that is not a tier 1 gun. (Colt LMT, Noveseke, etc)

For hard use, multi-thousands of rounds a year as a weapon, I agree with you. But, for what 99% of people use them for, myself included, a Bushy or RRA with a few, select upgrades works just fine.

In this case, the Remington is a rebadge Bushy sold for varmint hunting - you don't need the prancing pony for that. In fact, it's going to do that particular job better than anything Colt or LMT sells.

I hope the R-15 is a sales success. The message of the AR needs to make inroads with the traditional hunting community. There are too many from that side who still say "those assault rifles are evil and need to be banned."

The Remington R-15 is made by Bushmaster. That's why I posted the prices earlier. They are both owned by Cerberus.

Honestly the weapon doesn't offer anything new or improved. But I whole heartedly agree with Drifting Fate about Remington shining a different light on the platform.

Though I would say that he is about 200% wrong with the statement that there isn't anything Colt or LMT makes that will do the the same job. And I'm not even going to bother spending the time gathering the specifics.. the basic fact is that a 20" AR15A2/3/4 will give as good if not better performance and handling than these knock off, kinder gentler looking AR's from Remington.

At least there havent been any tac-fudd rifle comments. If it gets the Varmiters interested that will be one more group standing with us. Too bad they waited so long to introduce it. It might be a good collector in later years as one of the shortest production runs with the Remington name on it if Shrillary or Osama Obama get into office.

You guys do realize that a Colt is also a knockoff? I had a choice between Colt and Bushmaster. REALLY HAPPY that I got a Bushy. Haven't run into a Colt yet, at our local range, that'll outshoot my Bushy.

Colt: Nonexistent customer service. Irregular pin sizes on a bunch of their models, safety block, etc., etc.

All Bushys, except the varmint models, come with chrome-lined barrels.

No Colt is not a knock off. They are the best out of the box non custom gun going. Period.
Here is the the Chart. Read it and weep.

If you were going to mention Armalite. Armalite went out of buisness a long time ago. The rights to the name were purchased by Mark Westrom of Eagle Arms. A great marketing move but that does not make his products any better.

Hmm...425 dollar jump from a Stag to a Colt, and the fact that Stag makes a left-handed model for those of us who are left-handed shooters...that's why I bought a Stag. I am in no way disputing that Colt makes a fine product but for what I wanted Stag was the way to go. Some folks will feel likewise about the Remington and not want to drop the extra 33% on the Colt.

Very well put and I'm a righty and still bought a Stag. It's all a matter of preference and the name doesn't mean much to me. I research the manufacturer, their record on warranty and customer support, and get input from members in these forums. After that, if I load it, pull the trigger and it hits the target where I want it, consistantly. Then that is pretty much all that matters.....Let's see who all does (Stag) CMT make components for besides Colt....LOL Colt makes a fine weapon, but it's just not worth the extra money just to have the "Name". The money I saved put a very nice Eotech on my Stag.

Another thread to read is this.......http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=7376

Rob, as did others, spent alot of time putting "The Chart" together. Alot of useful comparison between "Major" manufacturers. However, read the thread that he posted concerning the chart.

Yeah, thanks for the reference to Armalite; everything after them is a knockoff. I don't need to look at your chart to make me feel better about my choice of ARs.
