Optics for Colt 6920

So, I recently decided to sell my main AR which was a mega machine co. monolithic 12" railed upper and matching billet lower (it weights a ton), and start making my rifles more like the ones issued to troops, or at least as close as I can.

So, here's where I am, I have a colt LE6920 with a Knights Armament RAS system, and foregrip and the LMT sopmod stock.

I want to put some type of red dot on it, but here's where I'm running into trouble. I like the Eotech 553 TAN, but can't seem to figure out why it costs so darn much more than the other eotechs. And then, I'm not sure if I want eotech over aimpoint, because they are both very nice systems.

Advice on which to go with? Trijicon ACOG is out of the question due to the cost prohibitiveness of it.

Personally I like the Eotech, why, I like the 1 MOA red dot with the 65MOA circle. It can be used to calculate lead and distance. But mainly I find my eye likes to track better on it and it's easier to find quickly.
I have used a Aimpoint T1 With the 4 MOA dot, it's nice and from the Daniel Defence video durable as heck. But I find my eye does not track on just the dot as well as the circle dot reticle. If possible you need to try both on a range shooting before you decide if you can. As they both cost a lot of money as you know.

IMHO, the Micro T-1 is the best combat optic made today. It's durable, light, and answers the mail.

Having said that, it has a little brother. The Micro H-1 offers most of the durability and function of its big brother the T-1, at a much lower cost. Google-shop it and you might be pleasantly surprised at the cost.

For mounts, nothing beats Larue, but I've heard (and seen) good things about DD's mounts.

I have a .308 EOTech on my MK14 Mod 0 and I have owned a few of the standard EOTech optics and love their big screen view.
I have a Gen 2 EOTech FTS 3x magnifier inbound for my XR308.

I also have two of the Aimpoint Micro T-1 and love their light weight, tiny size and battery life.
I find the T-1s work best/fastest when they are mounted as far away from my eyes as possible.
One is mounted on my AKM the other is on my CQB 16.

If you plan to target beyond 300 yards with your AR I think the EOTech or a 2 MOA Aimpoint would be best

they have low cost red dot and scope options. I have their 1-4x with illumination scope and it was well worth the 119 dollars. is it as good as a trijicon accupoint? no, but it's still a high value scope.

I have been leaning towards eotech because of the 1 MOA dot. The T1 has a 4 MOA dot and that get too big IMO at 300 yards.

I really want the 553 but the cost.. I'm looking at the exps3 or an aimpoint PRO

Another EOTECH fan here. I've tried the ACOG and the Aimpoint Comp sights but really like the wide 'picture window' view field of the EOTECH. I do most of my shooting under 200 yds and a lot at CQB distances of under 75 yds. The EOTECH really shines for me at those distances and makes target acquistion very fast. However for that occaisional 3-400 yard shot on mansized targets the EOTECH comes through for me when I do my part. I would like to add a magnifier to my setup for long shots but not sure that the added weight would be worth it.

I am contemplating an EOTECH with bullet drop compensation for one of my M1A Bush/Scout rifles but it's way down on my list of wants. Gotta pay off my house...........sigh!

I don't like anything that uses batteries or switches - thus no EOTECH.

My personal favorite on an AR Carbine is the older Trijicon Reflex - preferably with the 12 minute amber Triangle. Much cheaper than the ACOG. At close range you just put the triangle over center mass and fire, at long range you use the point of the triangle as a precise aiming point. Extremely fast target acquisition, cowitnesses with the sights on a carry handle rifle with the Trijicon drop mount. They now have some new, larger Reflex models in the catalog, both powered and tritium. You might give it a look. CC

Aimpoint compM4 has up to 8 years on a battery. I suppose that is on the NV setting, but 5years on the brightest. Leave it on and forget it. It completely blows them doghouse Eotechs out of the water. Agreed I like the 1moa dot, but it isn't to overly hard to pop a 6" shoot-n-c at 300yards with it and a 6920. What more do you want? Want more spring for a magnifier also.

That or since a 1-8 S&B shortdot is a little ways off yet, I was thinking of a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 It isn't bad with solid construction and very good features making it's price point of $499 seem pretty reasonable.

Nice,,I have the same setup !!! XPS Eotech & 3X Magnifier,,it works outstanding !! Flip the magnifier to the side for CQB stuff,,,bring the magnifier into play when I need the extra power for distant targets !!! The best of both worlds !!! I also had a T1 for awhile,,& they are fantastic sites & if I was going to War,,I would have a Aimpoint,,but for me,,the Eotechs work great !!!

Nice work on the finished rifle. I'm another EOTech fan here. I got mine from GG&G with their lense covers and couldn't be happier. I'm not running magnification though, so the lese covers make less sense for you. Nice set up for sure!

Nice looking rifle. I have used that same sight system, it is a good one if you are going for a battery sight. I would recommend you install some folding iron sights permanetly on your rifle.

If someone does not want a sight that is dependent on batteries, the ACOG and the Leupold CQT are good choices. I used a CQT for several years on ny work gun, a Colt Commando. It has a regular circle reticle but it is illuminated. It is 1 to 3 power.

No with the M4 that is on position 10 of 13, which is a bright, usable setting, on the lowest NV setting the battery life is 500,000 hours or 57 years, good luck getting a AA battery to last that long. Nothing touches the battery life of Aimpoint's, the T1 has a battery life of 5 years on position 8 of 10, also a usable setting. Leave them on and change the battery once a year to be safe, Aimpoint's are the only battery powered red dots I use. Eotech's do not hold up to hard use. Here is a DD carbine test but check out how the T1 holds up.

I don't compromise on optics, Aimpoint has proven to me to be the best choice in RDS out there - battery life and durability exceeds anyother manufacturer. Aimpoint PRO is the best value out there IMO.
