in the bigger scheme of things where does the bushmaster fit in as far as quality when compared to the other makers of the evil black rifle?

a local gunshop has one on consignment for 600 bux used, its 16" barrel, dont know if its chromed, need to ask, fixed stock and chambered in 5.56 nato. it has an adco red dot sight, dont know anything about them. the barrel doesnt look like any ar-15 ive ever shot, they have all looked thin with flash suppressors/compensators, this one is smooth, thick looking with no suppressor, any ideas? and the foregrip? doesnt have the tacticool rails but i figure that should be easy to change right? and a collapsable stock? how hard are they to change out?

i have been kicking around the idea of picking one up and confirmed with the spousal unit that this will not terminate the contract of marriage we are invested in so if this is a good one let me know guys, i didnt go to the "other" gun forum for fear of being ridiculed, but i love you guys LOL. ive been an AK guy for a while and wanna shoot something thats a little, ok alot different.

Sounds like a run of the mill ban era bushy.
Heavy barrel, no comp or flash supressor, and no collapsable stock.
the barrel should be chrome lined, all Bushmasters are.
it's a decent deal, and you can upgrade it at will.

yep AR's are great for upgrades ..new barrels ,pins, gas tubes, and furniture. you can make it a brand new rifle with enough money and time.

Bushmaster is usually considered to be one of the top three in the AR world(of course much of that is left up to personal opinion). The way you describe it makes it sound like it's probably one of the standard HBAR style rifles. You can easily put railed handguards on and there are many options for collapsible stocks out there. Your only real limitation on what you can do with your AR is the amount of money you have to spend. It sounds like a decent price, go for it and embrace the black rifle disease!

Well... you'll want to put a Flash hider or break on it.. that'll mean a trip to the gun smith for threading. Other than that.. adding the rails, swapping out the stock, buffer tube, spring and buffer is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasy. For $600 out the door (haggle em' down, if need be mention CMMG's super bargin bin). I'd also say get your gun smith to check it over before you call it a done deal. You never know what kind of abuse a previous owner might have put it through.

Sounds like an E2S postban model. Its a chrome lined 1/9 twist most likely. Not a bad setup but lacks all the cool features. You would be better off getting one with a FH(if applicable in your area) as you probably will want one and rethreading is expensive and time consuming(cut and recrown plus shipping and turnaround time) I ended up putting all the cool features on mine and had a ton of money into it. You can get a pretty nice ar for $700 online fairly easy. Just my .02
