Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has first hand experience with the Stag Arms left handed complete rifles. I have generally heard good things about their parts, particularly the lowers, but I have yet to run across anyone who has actually used/owned one. I got to handle one (Mod. 2L) at a gun store on vacation a couple of weeks ago, and fell in love. Before I order one from a local store, I'd like to make sure I'm not getting myself into anything that will cause me trouble. Also, how close to the MSRP of $950 am I likely to pay? (in OR if that helps)
Thanks a lot,
Mpak

If their left handed rifles are anything like their right handed rifles they are top of the line! 0 problems with mine.

I went to my local FFL and had them order one from the stag factory and paid MSRP. But the store owner said "Stag just paid for your transfer fee/check and alot more" saying that she got it for way under MSRP. by that time it was to late for me I had already agreed to pay full price, so see if you can get them to agree to a lower price based off what they pay, if of course you go to a good store with good people. By the way it only takes 4 days from the time you order till it's in your hands! They process orders fast.

I think $950 is too much.

My recommendation, go here and get an 2HL Upper for $539/shipping included. (that is the flat top, $569 for removable carry handle)

http://ar15sa.fatcow.com/store/page2.html (scroll down for lefty's)

Then go here and get a complete lower for $245/shipping included.

http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=311790

$25 for two 30 round mags (about anywhere)

Then $25 (hopefully) for your local dealer to transfer the lower.

So, 539 + 245 + 25 + 25 = $834 for a complete lefty!

Many people will recommend AR-15 sales and I have used Kiser myself to buy my righty Stag!

Can't really speak for lefty versions, but my right handed Stag M4gery is really nice. I got it for $825 out the door (that includes taxes and all).

Nope it is the tax on a complete gun that gets ya. (from what I have been told) Push the two pins in yourself (so easy even I can do it) and save $100 plus.

That sounds pretty cool, do you know if that complete upper includes the Bolt, Bolt Carrier group and charging handle? I've seen a lot of them that didn't, and that was really the only thing keeping me from buying it in pieces. but if that price includes it, I'm definitely going that route. Thanks a lot for the responses and links.

Yes, if it says "complete" upper. It will ship to your door. Get a "complete" lower (not stripped) shipped to your FFL and all you need to do is push two pins in with your fingers, no tools required.

Let us know what you do and how it turns out.

The Stag Lefty is an excellent firearm. You'll like it!
I don't know many FFLs who are still only charging $25 for processing an order as you are keeping them from selling a gun and costing them time and money to do the paperwork.
You should be able to find one for less than the MSRP, so building your own will not save much if anything, and absolutely nothing if your time and effort are worth anything!

I was hoping that the MSRP was inflated in this case as much as they normally are. I did consider putting it together myself. Even doing the lower myself from a stripped one + parts kit wouldn't be too much of an issue. I set up an Excel spreadsheet comparing everything, and it seems to come down to this: as the amounts work out, I gain the lifetime warranty, hard case, and a whole bunch of extra crap (manuals, t-shirt, stickers) for the price of the excise tax. However, if their warranty is not really worth much, I'd just as soon do it myself. So here's the new question, do you guys think that the warranty is worth that much? Thanks a lot, the info on here has really helped me narrow it down.

Not sure on the warranty thing. If I remember correctly, there is a 1-year warranty on uppers and lowers purchased separately . I figured any manufacturers defect would be found in the first few thousand rounds. The lifetime won't cover normal wear & tear. I have been told that Stag will stand behind their products.

It is something to consider.

And you can still go cheaper then that, if you are not afraid of assembling the lower half yourself. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=382832 then another 50 for the lefty upper + 100 or so for stripped lower and you have yourself a complete AR for less then 800 dollars.

I don't have a complete Stag lefty, but have a lefty upper which I slapped on a BM lower. Works great. I souped it up a bit, and added the prerequisite gadgets, etc. The only caveat to the lefty upper is that the ejection door is hinged from above. Unfortunately, when using certain free-float uppers, the hinge pin has nothing to ride against, and shoots loose. If you plan on adding a FF tube, look for a monolithic type instead.

I got my Stag AR for $850 out the door. It's a model 2 flat top right handed model. I can't say enough good things about the Stag. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger and it groups REAL good. The only thing that I don't like about it is the GI trigger. The next mod that I do to it will be a decent drop in trigger group and then it'll be perfect.
