I had an original Colt SP1 in the factory electroless nickel finish. It looked a little like a bead blasted stainless gun. It is a fairly inexpensive finish which can be applied by a hobby gunsmith with a tank, heater, and agitator...no electroplating required (hence the "electroless" moniker). When applied to a polished firearm, the nickel is pretty bright. When applied to a gun with a rough finish (bead-blasted or sanded with medium grit wet-or-dry), the nickel will appear matte.
