Well,

I'm thinking that the gun shop owner that was building my AR is ducking out on me. His shop closed down, I've been trying to get a hold of him for two solid weeks and he won't answer his phone.

I got the lower right after he completed it, but I'm beginning to get the feeling now that I may not ever get my upper.

It's not a big deal. I feel slighted because of the amount of work I put in on his web-page..but I'll just chalk it up to a life lesson.

So, I may be in the position in the next two months or so to pick up an M4 style upper. Any advice on where I should purchase one, and how much I should expect to spend?

I'm looking for a decent SHTF reliable upper that I could potentially feed crap ammo through if I had to (not that I intend to feed too much through it).

Thanks,

Ryan

Take down his webpage if you can. Since he has not paid you, take it down. That is a shame. Something recently happened to me where I did about $1k worth of work for my wife's boss, and I got stiffed. So she is making it up by over charging him on things.

Already done.

His page is permanently stuck on "currently under construction" until I get word from him that he either A) has paid me or B) will pay me in the next week.

Well if you got screwed by the guy and don't expect to get the upper, then your next best bet is going to be Pete at AR15SALES.COM .. Good deals on Stag and RRA .. give him a call to get his exact prices and chat with him a bit, it's worth it.

I have been chatting by email and phone with Pete over the last couple of days. He seems to be a straight shooter and honest. He even steered me away from a more expensive product over something cheaper. I am sure I will be ordering from him next Friday...unless I can talk my wife into letting me order sooner. :D

+1, Pete is great.

Ummmm, why are you going through a gunsmith/dealer for an upper? It's not a gun, and there is a ton of upper manufacturers that will just send you a completed upper through the mail.

Just asking....

yup, the lower is considered the gun. You can order a upper right of the net.

I'm not associated with Pete and I'm exceptionally hard on my vendors and don't endorse lightly. Pete is one of the most forthright and honest vendors I've dealt with in my adult life.

I don't call Pete asking a ton of questions, I've done my research and generally know what I need. I may ask his opinion on my decisions, but the great thing is that he generally confirms my information.

If Pete steers you wrong, well, drop me a line. I've seen at most 3 folks who had issue with him and one was over his gruff attitude. That guy was a sissy in my mind. The other two as I understand were made more than right, Pete takes is reputation VERY seriously. Just like I take mine when recommending something or someone.

Because I was SUPPOSED to get a completed gun in return for some website work I did for him.
