Hey all.....
Spent some time cruising the forums here after buying the M&P 15-22. I've added a Primary Arms red-dot - (not bad for an inexpensive sight) - and am waiting ANXIOUSLY for some additional mags. Been burning through plenty of .22 that I had on hand for a while. Need to start concerving that now though.
Anyway, the version I have has the 4 rail front end and a single sling attach loop on the very back of the 6 position stock.
Since I am going to be setting this up for as close to a match as my "full size" AR, I needed to get a way to mount the sling closer to the receiver. As noted here on the forum, (but will mention again), the M&P 5-22 doesn't have a castle nut in the back of the receiver. The "buffer tube" is molded in to the lower.
So, after plenty of looking around, and some reviews here, I went for the GG&G "Agency" ambidextrous sling plate.
GG&G Agency Rear Sling Attachments, Collapsible Stock - Looped GGG-1265, 313. GG&G Weapon Accessories.
It was pretty easy to mount: 1 - remove the adjustable stock. 2- drill a small pilot hole in the lower part of the buffer tube (key) for the tension screw (didn't like to do that). 3 - Fasten screw.
The plate is well made, and with the tension screw adjusted tight, it appears that it should do just fine. There is a potential to grab the "ears" of the plate with the fingers, or worse, finger nails!!, when charging the rifle, but with the initial testing, it seems that shouldn't be a problem.
I picked up a "SPec-ops" patrol sling, and once I have the proper clips, will see how it works. For temporary use I will mount the Magpul MS3 sling on it and see how that goes. The Spec-ops sling seems to be extremely well made, and I may end up putting that on the full-size AR and moving the MS3 to the 15-22..... still working on that.
Pics to follow when camera and gun are in the same place.
For those that may be looking for a way to mount a sling to the rear of the 15-22 receiver, my initial thoughts are that this is a good way to do it. I had hoped that the notch on the GG&G would be deep enough to avoid having to drill, but that was not the case. There are a couple of other clamp on sling mounts available, but this is the one I could find at the time, no regrets.
Have a good week all!
